SOME PERSONAL HISTORY OF
G. W. S. WARE
Paternally, I came from Ireland to North Carolina, then to Northwest Georgia, Catoosa
County. Maternally, I came from England to Virginia, then to North Carolina, then to
Catoosa County, Georgia. There, my chance came to live in the world, April 5, 1854, and I
have been at it these eighty-three years and some. My first fifteen years, I gave to
Northwest Georgia. Then I decided to go to Florida and give her some, but she was so
greedy she took fifty-nine years, and of those last eight years, I must give half, while
the other half goes to my native state, and I tickled the face of Florida by farming the
fifty-nine years she held me, and she laughed me out a living and enough over to make me
independent of wife, children, state and Baptist, for support up here in old age.
I went to Florida a young sinner, but I didnt like it a bit. So God took pity on
me and gave me a new birth into the Kingdom, and I have been going around among its
wonders these sixty years, and I have barely begun. In less than two years God impressed
me to go out and publickly tell what I had found, but I did it privately fourteen years,
then broke through, and the Providence Baptist Church, Union County, Florida, had me
ordained as a preacher for Jesus Christ. The second Sunday in July, 1887, was when it
started with me. Tired after fifty years? Eternal youth is too near at hand for that.
