SELF RELIANCE.

--------------

Primarily, a man who trust in himself is a fool, for there is nothing in him, but what will betray his confidence in the final things of time and Eternity.

What I mean by my topic, is: To obey God for himself, not to depend on others to obey God in his place, or depend on others to use the talents and powers God has given him to use. This is depending on an impossibility, for God excepts no substitute on this line. The power to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, as our personal Saviour, is the gift of God, to evry one who hears the Word of God; but if a person fails to believe God’s Word about Christ, or depends on some one, or a church, or his morality, God cannot save him, because of lack of self reliance, to step out before God and act for himself; and the power to believe is taken from him and given to an other sinner, who will use it for the glory of God and his own salvation.

When I was ninteen years of age, God gave me a talent to preach. For fourteen years I lacked self reliance to try. A mental inferiority complex had me. I tried to substitute other works for God in its place, but it would not work. If I had gone on a little futher, God would have taken His talent for preaching, away from me, and would have raised up an other man to take and use it.

I have a talent to write, one or more, I do not know, I did not generate it. I try to have self reliance, enough to cultivate it. In my teen, I had an urge to write. In old age, I have it yet. I like to generate a thought and write it down on paper, to see how it looks and sounds. When I was young I had little time to write, or be taught how to do it. In youth, I had the fear of man to write, here in old age, I am cured of that. Here in old age, God has given me all the time I want to write. Any thing my Father wants me to write for Him, here in my old age, my joy would run over to please Him to write it, for Him to use in any way He would have use for it. The fact, would give me self reliance to do any thing for God, He wanted me to do. Writing for God is like living for Him, its by faith in Him, that He wants you to write for Him. It takes a great deal of self reliance to believe this and do it.

It is the will of God for His people to be self reliant in Him. Rejoice, be of good courage, fight the good fight, over come the world, run the race, resist the Devil. Cry our your self reliance; I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
