HIDE.

Hide: To Conceal; secrete.

God rideth upon the heavens for thy help, Deu. 33:26; and Satan says he walks up and down in the earth (Job 1:7), and God says Satan is seeking, as he walks about, those he may devour, 1 Pet. 5:8. God tides above the earth, Satan walks in it; God hid Jesus Christ, His Son, as a man among men, till he was thirty years of age, then He walked out among men and destroyed the works of the Devil, 1 Jo. 3:8. This destruction of Satan is still going on in this world in the human family. Some men and women hide from God with their sins in Satan, but God sent His Son to seek them, Lu. 19:10. It seems to be impossible for a spirit to be found unless willing; and comparatively few are willing to bring out all their sins and sinful nature for Christ to find them, forgive and blot out their sins and nature and create a new nature for them, which is then hid in Christ in God, Col. 3:5. Satan knows much Scriptures; hence, he seeks for the conduct of those, to make it sinful, 2 Sam. 11:4; Mat. 26:72. But they repent, Ps. 51:2, 3, 4; Mat. 26:75. When a Christian tries to hide his conduct from God in sin, evil pursues him, Prov. 13:21, Col. 3:6, and his spirit overcomes his sinful mind to keep it in subjection to his hidden spirit in God, 1 Cor. 9:27.

"It is the glory of God to conceal a thing"; hence, what a joy it is to be commanded of God to find what He has hidden, Mat. 7:8, Jer. 29:13, to the glory of God and to be like Him. When I was a child I knew God was somewhere, and I began to seek for Him. He knew I was trying to find Him, and did not hide yet more from me. As long as I tried to find Him in my good conduct, of course I did not find Him, for He was not in such an imperfect thing; but when I did find Him, or He found me, we were alone, though His people were all around; so sudden, simple, glorious and everlasting, I have peace like a river to flow on forever.
