Assent–To admit as true.

To admit as true, something not true, is like Satan fallen from heaven. Lu. 10:18. What a man assent to will form his character, good or bad. Man’s nature is such, he cannot assent to one thing, and be its opposite. This is the bane of all hypocrites, assent to wrong, trying to gain the reward of right. When mother Eve gave her assent to what Satan suggested, she lost her nature like God, before she ate the forbidden fruit. Satan tried the same method with Jesus Christ, to get his assent to do what he suggested for him to do. When Satan suggest to a man to commit a sin, and the man will not assent, Satan is disappointed, but tries for his assent to commit some other sin. If the man will not assent, Satan weaken, and if the man refuses his assent to commit the third sin Satan has to offer, Satan leaves him for awhile, to try some one who will commit those sins against God, for him.

When a person assets to give all to God, God excepts what he has ask for, and will not refuse. Prov. 23:26; John 6:37.

Before I was grown, I had a conference with myself, and got my assent to be a farmer to make my living, and I was and did it. Back yonder in my youthful days, that farming was the true way for me to make my living. The principle involved is, for every person to get their assent to follow some honest occupation to the glory of God.

When the Roman Catholic Church assented, that it had power to change the form of baptism to sprinkling and pouring, admitted something not true, for God’s word gave it no such power to change what God had fixt by his own example. Mark 1:9,10. If those same men were in assembly now, and pass a unanimous edict to restore the form of baptism back as Christ did it, millions of people, catholics among them, would spurn their authority to do it.
