PATERNAL ANCESTORS OF
G.W.S.Ware.Gainsville, Florida, 2-14-38. They came from Ireland, how far back I know
not. My grand father, Robert Ware, owned a farm in Rutherford Co., N.C., and lost his life
by trying to help defenseless human beings. He left seven sons, Robert, Joseph, Ebenezer,
Non, Alfred, James and Levi. My father Robert, moved to Catoosa Co., Georgia, in 1838, as
the Cherokkee Indians were being moved out West. In 1850, my grand mother Ware sold out in
N.C., and bought land in Sugar valley, eight miles North of my Fathers farm, where
now is located Ebenezer Baptist Church. His children were: Mary, Jane, Williamson,
Clarinda, Louis, Julius, Robert, Sallie and Scott, MYSELF, 84, April, 3, 1938. |

MATERNAL ANCESTORS OF G.W.S.Ware. My
mothers name was Harriet Ware, nee, Fortune. Her father owned a farm, in Rutherford Co.,
N.C. He was a Baptist deacon, and died before the Baptists split on Missions. He came from
Va., and his ancestors, came from England.
Tradition says, That several paternal uncles of N.C., were men of wealth, and one of
their uncles moved to Georgia, with seven sons, long before the Civil War; and settled
some where, where Hawkinville now is.
My maternal aunt Sallie, changed her Fortune into Gold and they were blessed with a
son, P.D. Gold, the noted Anti Missionary Baptist preacher and editor of Wilson, N.C., of
the past generation. In our correspondence, I retain one good thought of his: "He
that thinkest he is able to preach Christ, ceaseth to preach Him." The only maternal
first cousin, I ever met was P.D. Fortune, of LaFayette, Georgia, who was captured, and
made a Presbyterian Elder.
I imagine if I had my paternal ancestors in a line back to Adam, and my maternal ancess
tresses, in a line before them, it would be interesting to walk down the line between
them, to see what kind of folks they were, when they passed through life on earth.
G.W.S.Ware, 1317 W. Union, St.
Gainsville, Fla.
